Glendale - A singer from the group Girlicious was charged on Thursday with a felony count of possession for sale of cocaine.
Natalie Nicole Mejia, 21, of Diamond Bar, is scheduled to be arraigned April 15 in Glendale Superior Court.
Mejia was riding in a car that was stopped Tuesday night by a Glendale police officer, who found more than a dozen bags containing cocaine in her Gucci purse, police said. She was released Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $30,000 bail.
The car's driver, Peter Ascencio, 28, of Burbank, was also arrested. He was charged with one felony count of possession for sale of cocaine and one misdemeanor count of driving when privilege is suspended or revoked.
Police stopped the 1998 Ford Mustang near Victory Boulevard and Winchester Avenue because Asencio was allegedly speeding.
Aside from Mejia, the other members of Girlicious are Nichole Cordovan and Chrystina Sayers. The singing group, whose first album was released in Canada in 2008, was formed by Robin Antrin, who also began the Pussycat Dolls.
In 2008, Mejia was a contestant on The CW unscripted series, "Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious," beating out other contestants to become a member of the all-female group.
