ASPEN, CO - A judge has modified a protective order allowing actor Charlie Sheen and his wife, Brooke, to see each other as Sheen faces domestic violence allegations.
Prosecutors filed charges of felony menacing, third-degree assault and criminal mischief against Sheen stemming from his arrest Dec. 25 at his Aspen home. He faces up to three years in prison on the menacing charge.
He did not enter a plea Monday. Further proceedings are scheduled March 15.
Brooke Sheen sat in the front row of the gallery during the hearing.
The couple hugged after the hearing and left the courthouse in separate vehicles.
Brooke Sheen's attorney, Yale Galanter, said the couple will
head back to Los Angeles on the same plane.
Valley on Friday, and police said the "Two and a Half Men"
star reported the vehicle stolen.
A "vehicle over the side" was reported in the 13300 block of
the winding ridgetop road at 4:06 a.m., according to the Los
Angeles Fire Department.
A contingent of 32 firefighters -- including two helicopter
crews -- searched overnight for whoever may have been inside the
Mercedes, said Erik Scott of the LAFD.
No victim was found, and rescuers were released from the
scene after daybreak, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer
Bruce Borihanh of the Media Relations Section.
The search was launched after a cell phone caller told the
California Highway Patrol that a black vehicle went over the side
of the road, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.
Sheen reported his car stolen earlier this morning, Borihanh
said. "It is being investigated as an auto theft," Borihanh said.
The celebrity news Internet site
TMZ.com, which
reported that the car was Sheen's, was told that the actor received
a call from a security company around 4 a.m., informing him that an
alert was generated indicating that the vehicle had been involved
in a wreck and that the airbags had deployed.
Until today, Sheen most recently had been in the news for
being arrested in Aspen, Colo., on Christmas Day on suspicion of
domestic violence. He was released on bail later that day.
The 44-year-old actor was arrested on suspicion of menacing
his wife, Brooke Mueller, 33, with a knife. It is a class-five
felony in Colorado that entails using a weapon in a threatening
way. He was also booked on suspicion of second-degree assault,
which is a class-four felony, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor,
police said.
Sheen has a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 8 at the
Pitkin County Courthouse in Aspen.
