Los Angeles - Actor Charlie Sheen, who is facing criminal charges in Colorado,
checked himself into a rehabilitation facility "as a preventative
measure," his spokesman said today.
Stan Rosenfield said Sheen "will take some time off his
series `Two and a Half Men."'
"He has asked that his privacy be honored. No further
statements are planned," Rosenfield said.
Rosenfield did not provide details on what type of
rehabilitation facility the 44-year-old actor had entered.
Sheen was charged earlier this month with felony menacing and
two other counts stemming from an alleged Christmas day attack on
his wife, Brooke Mueller, in Aspen, Colo. He is free on bail and
was expected back in court in Colorado March 15.
Mueller has also been in a rehabilitation facility. Mueller
reportedly left a Malibu facility called The Canyon, alleging that
her admission information had been leaked to the media. She checked
into another facility on Monday, according to various media
reports.
Sheen rose to fame with star-making appearances in films such
as "Red Dawn," "Platoon" and "Wall Street." He won a Golden Globe
in 1996 for his lead role in the television comedy "Spin City." He
has been nominated for two Golden Globes and four Emmy Awards for
his turn as the womanizing Charlie Harper on "Two and a Half Men."
CBS officials could not be reached for immediate comment on
Sheen's entry into rehab and what impact it might have on the hit
sitcom.
