Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - Reverend Sheila Schuller-Coleman, the woman about to take the reins of the Crystal Cathedral, says she was excited to lead the television ministry and to be a role model to women.
In an interview on FOX 11’s Good Day LA , the Rev. Sheila Schuller Coleman, 58, said she was ready to reach out to people during difficult times.
"These are tough times but, as dad taught us, tough times never last but tough people do," she said. "People need that message today."

Her 54-year-old brother, the Rev. Robert A. Schuller, was groomed to take over from his father, the Rev. Robert H. Schuller, 82, who founded the evangelical known for its "Hour of Power" broadcasts. But the younger Schuller -- many knew him as Robert Jr. -- left the church and started a family- programming television partnership.
She said she never dreamed she would be tapped to run the church, since women could not become ordained ministers "in our denomination" until 1973.
"I'm excited now that it has happened because I can be role model for other women and, as someone said, I'm shattering the glass ceiling in the Crystal Cathedral."
She said she would bring a mother's touch the job.
"That's who I am. I'm a mother. I have four sons, ages 22 through 29. They're the love of my life. And I know to nurture. I know how to protect. And I know how to love," she said.
Schuller, who has a doctorate in education administration leadership, said she had a new book out about erasing "mommy guilt."
