Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - The HALO Breast Pap Test is a new no-risk screening tool that
could tell your doctor whether or not you have precancerous
changes, years before a tumor develops.
Dr. Deanna Attai of the Center for Breast Care in Burbank
likens the screening to a pap smear of the breast, but adds that
the test is not a replacement for mammograms in women who would
normally get them. Christine Devine has more on the exam in this
video report.
More info:
The HALO test does not diagnose breast cancer. Rather it tests fluid extracted from the nipple for the presence of abnormal cells within the milk ducts. These cells can be indicative of atypical hyperplasia, a condition associated with a higher breast cancer risk. Women who have a positive HALO test are often referred for further testing including mammogram, ultrasound and MRI.
