Los Angeles - You can have your own entourage of beauty experts at your fingertips... from makeup artists to stylists to colorists... thanks to beauty apps that are redefining modern style right on your smartphone.
Beauty apps for the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad are taking style to a whole new level, putting your very own stylist right at your fingertips.
Nikkie Gatto / Beauty Expert, ModiFace.com:
"You take a photo of yourself and instantly you can apply all different shades to your face, whether it's lipstick, foundation, shades, mascara. Once you like your look, you can actually click on all the products used and actually purchase right off your iPhone or iPad."
Nikkie Gatto is a beauty exec at ModiFace, the company behind some of the hottest beauty apps.
Nikkie Gatto / Beauty Expert, ModiFace.com:
"Now you have a virtual makeover right in the palm of your hands."
Their apps include "Makeup" for the iPhone and "Makeup HD" for the iPad , both of which you can use to mix and match the right shades for you... before you shell out the bucks to buy them.
Alessandra Ricciuti / App User:
"You look through magazines and you see all the different colors that come out for spring, summer, fall. You never know what they're gonna look like on you. I think it's really fun you can play around and actually see it on yourself."
ModiFace also makes an app called "Hairmixer", which lets you try any style or color virtually.
Margie Abizo / App User:
"I had a bad episode where I dyed my hair really light and I hated it, and you have to go back and then re-dye it again. This is perfect. I can check it out and see what I look like before I do all that."
At LA's Andy LeCompte Salon, top Hollywood colorist Steven Tapp and make-up artist Jennifer Caplan say they dig the new technology.
Jennifer Caplan / Make-Up Artist, Andy LeCompte Salon:
"For so long, women would go through mags and they'd come with fifty gazillion magazines pics. You're spending a good part of your time sorting through them. This way, they can see what the colors look like on their own faces, so it really is an amazing new thing."
Steven Tapp / Colorist, Andy LeCompte Salon:
"What I have is look books. With this new app, I won't need to create look books cuz it'll already be there. We can just do it right on the phone. It's gonna make things so much easier."
Tapp, who colors the tresses of hot blondes like Madonna and Cameron Diaz, is used to clients coming in with celebrity photos. Now, by downloading the app and uploading a face, clients can actually see if the star "do" is a "don't" before the processing begins.
Steven Tapp / Colorist, Andy LeCompte Salon:
"It's like the best new toy ever."
ModiFace also makes apps to show plastic surgery before-and-afters, weight gain and loss, and what a little age'll do to a gal (or guy).
Nikkie Gatto / Beauty Expert, Modiface.com:
"Anything virtually that can be done to the face or the body we can do."
