Golden Road Brews Craft Beer Right Here in Los Angeles

Atwater Village - Do terms like "Revolution XPA," "Point the Way XPA" and "Smoked Black Lager" mean anything to you? We're talking beer here... awesome craft beer brewed in Los Angeles.

FOX 11's Susan Hirasuna has the scoop on Golden Road Brewery in Atwater Village.

Story Script:

All craft, all draft... and all California.

That's the mantra for Tony's Darts Away, not your average neighborhood bar.

Getting all that craft beer wasn't so easy. Tony Yanow, the owner, would drive around California to pick up the beer.

Eventually it dawned him to make his own so he partnered up with someone you could call the "business brains behind the brew."

Welcome to Golden Road LA's newest craft beer brewery. It's so new that they brewed their first batch this month.

This is a three day old hefeweizen so it has a a lot of work to do in the fermenters. 11 more days before kegged and go out to market.

At this stage, there's no carbonation, no alcohol and it's unfilitered But so far, Meg Gill, Golden Road's president and co-owner is pleased.

We want to produce a local beer that's drinkable and approachable to everyone. Clearly there's a demand. It seems every new bar and restaurant tout craft beer, but there's not even a dozen craft beer producers in L.A.

It's a far different picture if you go south or north.

In San Diego County, there are over 70 craft beer producers. In Northern California and the Bay Area, there are about 200.

Jon Carpenter is Golden Road's brew master.

Golden Road expects to keg it's first batch in a couple of weeks and open to the public in just over a month with a restaurant to follow.
