Beverly Hills - Kogi BBQ started the gourmet food truck craze not even three years ago. Now, a new trend is emerging... these mobile kitchens are going stationary and opening up restaurants. Check out Komodo Cafe.
FOX 11 News' Susan Hirasuna takes you on a tour of Komodo Cafe.
Story Script:
Komodo Cafe's dangerously good food started in a truck.
Komodo first began roaming the streets of Los Angeles in early 2010, and success came fast.
Michael Cho, Komodo Partner
We bought our initial truck in January. Six months later, we bought our second truck. Six months later, we got our restaurant.
Komodo's not alone.
Flying Pig , Frysmith and Coolhaus are some of the other outfits that are either in restaurants in addition to... or in place of... their food trucks.
Flying Pig is in Little Tokyo. Fry Smith is serving up at Loaded in Hollywood and coming soon. Cool Haus in Culver City.
BK... that's "Before Komodo"... Chef Erwin Tjahyadi cooked at the Hotel Bel Air, but the food was nothing like the Indonesian Fusion creations he whips up now.
Now, in a bigger kitchen, Chef Erwin can branch out with dishes like his Shrimp Protein Bowl.
Erwin Tjahyadi, Komodo Chef
If you have a long line with a hundred people, this is something that we can't do. I'm not trying to overcook my shrimp. I like my shrimp nice and tender.
The restaurant setting is definitely more comfortable. The food's just as delicious. The prices are about the same.
