Cupertino - California's political leaders are sharing their thoughts about the death of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Sen. Barbara Boxer issued a statement Wednesday offering her "deepest condolences" to Jobs' family and friends.

In her statement, the California Democrat described Jobs as a "California icon who embodied Silicon Valley's entrepreneurial spirit of creativity and optimism."

California Attorney General General Kamala Harris said the state has lost "a great leader." Harris also passed on her sympathies to Jobs' wife Laurene and his family.

And California Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom also noted Job's contribution to technology by describing him as a "true visionary who brought out the best in others."

Jobs, the man behind the iPod and iPhone, died Wednesday at age 56 after battling pancreatic cancer.
