NEW YORK - Two American vacationers are to appear in a Bahamian court today on charges stemming from eating iguana.
Vanessa Starr Palm, 23, of Illinois and Alexander Daniel Rust, 24, of Indiana, were arrested Feb. 2 after pictures of them eating an iguana were posted on Facebook .
The Freeport News reports that photographs on the site allegedly "shows the suspects catching an iguana, parts of an iguana on a grill, two men eating the iguana pieces."
The Bahamian authorities were alerted to the photos and tracked down the pair.
Palm and Rust could also face charges in the U.S. under a law that makes it illegal to commit an offense in a country with which it has a relationship.
According to Broward - Palm Beach (Fla.) New Times , though, the pair could have vacationed in Florida and enjoyed an iguana dinner without any legal recourse. There are no laws prohibiting eating iguanas in Florida, where the lizards are considered an invasive, non-native species.
