Makeovers For Over-Cougarized Women

Cougar. The term used to be a compliment to describe a woman that was older, still in her prime and still attracting young men. But somewhere the cougar morphed into something else.

"Big breasts. Big Lips. Wearing a lot of the things that may be too young for them. They are not letting go of their youth," said Tina Thompson, of Scottsdale, Ariz. describing over-the-top "cougars." Thompson understands the cougar-gone-overboard problem. She has been accused of succumbing to some of the pitfalls.

"I thought a cougar was just a woman that took care of herself. A woman that younger guys wanted to date and older guys wanted to date," said Thompson. "But it turns out she's not. She's tacky. She's cheap. That's the rap they are getting."

"I just want to look good for my age," said Thompson.

Lea Haben, a relationship expert, believes that women who take things to far have no idea they are doing it.

"The over-done breasts. The lips. The hair. It's crazy," said Haben describing women that have over done the cougar look. One of the consultations that Haben offers is called a "Cougar Makeover." Haben started offering these makeovers after she received a letter from a 15-year-old girl describing her mother and how embarrassed she was for her. ( Read the letter .)

Thompson agreed to get one of the "Cougar Makeovers" at the North Phoenix Plastic Surgery center. For her first appointment Thompson received filler injections for her face. The technicians at the center says that they go for a less-is-more approach to the injection. Botox and filler injection procedures are now done in a variety of offices. One problem women run into is going to someone who does not have much experience with the procedure. This can lead to a overdone look.

But when the procedure is done correctly, the look is "soft" says Haben. "When [the injection] is overdone it looks very hard. When the look is softer you're more approachable and your confidence level goes up."

After the injections, Thompson got suggestions from Haben on changing her hairstyle and hair color and some clothing choice ideas. Thompson took the advice and changed her look. ( Watch the clip below for before and after photos).

Haben has advice for sons and daughters with mothers who are experiencing this over-cougarization : "It's just a phase."
