Culver City - Just in time for V-Day... whether you're in search of true love or the occasional fun time, these hook up apps for your iPhone might help you get lucky.
Brittany
"Nowadays, everything people do by there phone. To be able to
find local singles with your phone, it just makes life even
easier."
Brittany's talking about the iPhone app "Skout", which uses GPS technology to help her get the hook-up with Jason just down the street at the Saints & Sinners club.
Jason
"It goes from a lame night to a great night in like two
seconds flat..You look up your GPS and Brittany's a block away and
'Voila,' just like that."
Another block away, Katie checks her Skout app from Bigfoot West to see if there's someone she likes nearby.
Katie
"I get to be more selective and seek them out a little bit.
There was a cute guy, and he mentioned he was up the street. We'll
see."
Moments later... the payoff.
Katie meets Hollywood singer-songwriter Sharif, who says he's tired of dating the old-fashioned way.
Sharif
"It's nice. It kinda eliminates the places you don't need to
go, and you go out and meet the right people."
Katie
"I get to see him and look at his Facebook from the app, and
find out if I'd wanna hang out with him outside of a bar. I think I
do."
Sharif
"Fingers crossed...."
As those two get cozy at the Bigfoot, Skout CEO Christian Wicklund says apps like these tap into man's baser instincts.
Christian Wicklund, CEO/Skout
"If we go back a little bit to when we were cavemen,
dating.... it's part of the primal brain behavior.... What we're
trying to do is marry the caveman behavior with the online dating
behavior.... We're giving you access to 1,000s of singles who are
around you."
His business partner, Niklas Lindstrom, says they also created "Boy Ahoy"... a hook up app for gay guys.
Niklas Lindstrom, CTO/Skout
"It's still a very sensive question to go up to someboy and
ask are you gay?.... It helps to find out that you're not
alone."
Other popular hook up apps include Grindr and Loopt Mix... all aimed to to help you find anything from a pal to a sweetheart for the night.
As long as you're sporting your iPhone... and, in some cases, your Android or Blackberry... you don't have to be alone.
Brittany
"If you're lonely on Valentine's Day, I would definitely
suggest trying it out."
By the way, the tech savvy singles in our video story met at Saints & Sinners and Bigfoot West... both Culver City bars celebrating the day o' love with anti-Valentine's theme parties.
Don't forget to BYOA... bring your own apps!
