In a scary new trend, organized crime is being accused of ripping off government-run health care programs for billions.
Boris Sokol and Alla Chernov are accused of conspiracy in a huge scam that bilked government-run health care programs out of millions. Investigators say the couple set up bogus medical clinics and paid a stable of doctors to do their bidding.
Sokol and Chernov allegedly raked in massive fees for medical services never performed and some for patients who were actually dead.
Investigators say this case is part of a health-care fraud epidemic.
Some investigators say the crimes are so similar they fear organized crime has taken over health-care fraud ... Setting up cookie-cutter fraud operations like criminal franchises.
