Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - Los Angeles cold-case detectives have arrested a man charged with murdering a 65-year-old woman nearly three decades ago.
Authorities say Victor Alvarez was arrested Thursday. He remained jailed Friday without bail.
Alvarez, 53, was charged with murder on Nov. 2.
Prosecutors contend he sexually assaulted and killed Hazel Hughes during a burglary at her Koreatown apartment in 1982. A nephew discovered her body.
Prosecutors haven't decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Alvarez also is under investigation for the death of 67-year-old Cordella Ferguson. Her body was found in the same apartment complex on the same day.
