1 Dead, 1 Wounded in Park Shooting

Santa Monica (myFOXla.com) - Authorities today identified a 20-year-old man who was fatally shot near Virginia Avenue Park in Santa Monica.

Richard Juarez of Santa Monica was found dead about 9 p.m. Tuesday, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Several gunshots were heard by a police officer on patrol near 21st Street and Pico Boulevard, said Santa Monica Police Lt. Mohamed Marhaba.

Police questioned a possible suspect, but it was unclear if the shooter was in custody. A motive for the crime was unknown. Anyone with information on the shooting was urged to call police at (310) 458-8495.
