South Los Angeles - Police today sought the driver of a dark sports utility vehicle that fatally struck a 6-year-old girl in South Los Angeles.
The hit-and-run happened about 9:25 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of West 49th Place, west of Figueroa Street, Officer Karen Rayner of Los Angeles Police Department said.
Witnesses said Kemberly Arrue was following a ball into the street when she was struck. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Rayner said. Investigators believe the vehicle, which had tinted windows, sustained front-end damage.
"The person responsible ... had no remorse," said Kemberly's older sister, Diana. "Running over a girl ... not even stopping for a second to see what happened. A 6-year-old girl."
Anyone with information about the case was urged to call police.
