An investigation was under way today into the death of a man whose body was found inside a burned-out shack in a field near the Harbor (110) Freeway and 190th Street, close to the Carson-Los Angeles border, authorities said.
The fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol about 10:20 a.m. Sunday, and Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the scene. The flames were out within 20 minutes of the initial call, according to CHP Officer Krystal Carter.
The man's burned body was found inside the ruins of the shack, said Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. An investigation was under way.
The man's name was being withheld pending family notification, said coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz.
