Boy Dies After Playing With Gun

Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - Gardena police say a 12-year-old boy has died after shooting himself in the head while playing with a gun.

Lt. Steve Prendergast says Christopher Kinney was alone in his room when his 14-year-old cousin heard a gunshot and found him at about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The boy died at a hospital.

Prendergast says a preliminary investigation found that the gun was properly secured in the home but the boy somehow got hold of it.

He says the shooting is considered an accident. The cousin, who was babysitting the boy and two other children, was not held.
