Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - Fire ripped through the attic of a home in East Los Angeles Wednesday, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to the 2500 block of East Second Avenue in the eastern part of the city at 4:36 p.m.., said Brian Humphrey of the city Fire Department. The blaze was knocked down in about 45 minutes, but most of the attic was destroyed.

Broadcast reports indicated the home was a duplex, but Humphrey said the structure might have been modified illegally.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Capt. Steve Ruda said that since the fire was mostly in the attic, allowing most of the flames and smoke to ventilate upward, firefighters used plastic tarps to protect the homeowners' possessions.
