Sylmar (myFOXla.com) - A 34-year-old man was taken into custody by police sharpshooters on Tuesday after allegedly shooting at houses and people while standing in the middle of a street in Sylmar.

Police were called to the 14300 block of Beaver Street, near Glenoaks Boulevard, about 5 p.m. on a call of a man with a gun, said Los Angeles police Officer Karen Rayner.

No one was hit, but the suspect, whose name was not released, did shoot at Special Weapons and Tactics team members before surrendering, Rayner said.

His motive was not known.

The situation prompted a lockdown at Dyer Street School, about a half- mile away, until the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect's name will not be released until he is booked. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, Rayner said.
