Boyle Heights (myFOXla.com) - A woman suspected in a fatal Friday night hit and run in Boyle
Heights is in custody today.
Carol Eleana Vega, 29, of Huntington Park, surrendered to
Whittier police on Saturday and was later booked at the Los Angeles
Police Department's 77th Street jail, police said.
Vega is believed to have been driving a 1993 Chrysler
Concorde that fatally struck a 19-year-old woman identified as
Guadalupe Colmenares, a Mexican citizen.
Her 37-year-old aunt, Rita Colmenares, and her 14-year-old
cousin, whose names were unavailable, were also injured in the
roughly 9:55 p.m. accident on East Sixth Street at Lorena Street,
police said.
The woman was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
The girl suffered a cut, but no condition was available for her.
The Chrysler was going east on Sixth Street, allegedly ran a
red light at Lorena and struck the three in a crosswalk, police
said.
Witnesses, or anyone else with more information about the
accident, were urged to call detectives during normal office hours
at (213) 927-1825, the Central Traffic Division watch commander at
(213) 972-1853, or the 24-hour hotline at (877) LAPD-24-7.
