32-year-old Ryan Alexander Jenkins, a former VH1 reality show contestant, was charged today with murder in the death of 28-year-old Jasmine Fiore and is now the target of an international manhunt, amid reports he may have crossed the Canadian border from a remote area in Washington state.
"This message goes out to the family, his mother and father, and
to the friends that are helping him try to leave this country,"
Fiore's former girlfriend and family friend Robert Hasman told
reporters at Buena Park City Hall. "Ryan Jenkins is an animal. What
he has done to Jasmine is unspeakable. It's just not right, and I
appreciate your help. Please understand who you're helping leave
this country. And we ask for your support to bring Ryan to
custody."
Buena Park police Lt. Steve Holliday said Fiore's fingers and
teeth had been removed.
According to Orange County court documents, prosecutors are
recommending that Jenkins be held in lieu of $10 million bail when
he is arrested.
Tom Hession of the U.S. Marshals Service said that although
there was no official confirmation that Jenkins was in Canada,
local officials were preparing paperwork to send to law enforcement
agencies in that country so an arrest warrant could be issued
there.
He also warned that anyone who helps Jenkins escape justice
would be subject to arrest.
"At this time, while we believe he has crossed into Canada,
we're not a hundred percent sure of that, and there will be no
stone unturned," he said. "We'll look under every rock for him. He
needs to understand that he's now officially wanted, that we don't
stop looking for him. The men and women of the task force and the
various agencies involved will continue to look for him until we
have him apprehended and in custody.
"Given that, anybody that assists him, helps him in anyway,
is also subject to being charged as aiding and abetting and
harboring a fugitive," he said. "So I would suggest to anybody out
there that is looking to assist this individual that they don't,
because they are going to be subject to being charged also."
Jenkins was a contestant on the VH1 reality show "Megan Wants
a Millionaire," a dating show in which men compete for the
affections of a woman looking to become a "trophy wife" for a
well-to-do suitor. His profile on the show's Web site lists him as
a Calgary investment banker who claims to mold "player girls" into
"princesses."
Late Wednesday night, Jenkins was said to have been located
in Seattle en route to Canada, but negotiations to detain him
apparently fell through at the last moment, sources told FOX 11
News.
