Anaheim (myFOXla.com) - Korean barbecue tacos... kim chee quesadillas... flavor combos available only from Kogi.

Some say they're strange combinations... exotic Korean flavors mixed with spicy Mexican cuisine... but they create a whole new taste sensation.

You can watch Tricia Takasugi's report on Kogi in the video player.

"We took the essence of Korean barbecue and put it into a two dollar taco," says Chef Roy Choi, who gained fame at high-end Los Angeles area restaurants, but now creates unique and flavorful foods for Kogi, Korean BBQ to Go.

"I never really cooked Korean food in my life even though I'm Korean," he says. "I'm more Latino in my blood that Korean."

And how has Kogi's wildly popular success reflected on his Asian heritage?

"Asians have never been considered sexy," Choi says. "Now, kim chee is as sexy as anything on this planet. That's a good thing!"

(Kim chee, BTW, can be any of a number of traditional Korean pickled dishes made with vegetables and varied seasonings)

Kogi BBQ isn't just the hippest food in town. It's become a social phenom thanks to Twitter.

Obsessed chowhounds use the service to track down Kogi's tasty morsels, which are served out of roving taco trucks.

Lines of people await the truck's arrival at wherever the tweets point them... sometimes ending up in line for two hours for a taste of the kim chee quesadillas, short rib burritos or Kogi mini-sliders.

Even life-long taco "experts" give Kogi the nod. We ran into one New Yorker who booked his cross-country flight around a Kogi experience.

"I have an eight hour layover in Los Angeles tonight so we could come here," he told us. "So I could actually see what Korean plus Mexican actually equals."

Chef Roy calls the Kogi "movement" urban street food that brings a whole new dynamic to eating.

"There's a different rhythm... a different appetite you develop when you stand outside and eat," he says. "It brings us together. It's magic. I call it Kogi magic."

Believe it or not... the Kogi truck phenomenon's gotten so much attention here in the Los Angeles area that you might just find Kogi trucks popping up in other cities across the country. Can you say NYC...?
