Wrightwood (myFOXla.com) - Thousands of people ordered to flee a 7,000-acre wildfire near a
Southern California mountain town can return home.
The U.S. Forest Service says most evacuation orders were
lifted at noon Tuesday for the Wrightwood area. About 2,000 homes
and 4,000 to 6,000 people are affected, mostly in the town.
Fire information officer Norma Bailey says firebreaks below
the town are holding, and cool, calm weather is helping crews.
The blaze in the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los
Angeles destroyed one home in a remote canyon, where an evacuation
remains in effect.
The fire is 32 percent contained after burning 7,128 acres,
or more than 11 square miles of brush and timber.
Containment is expected Thursday evening.
