North Hollywood (myFOXla.com) - Two men were arrested early today on suspicion of murder
following the slaying of a gang rival in a shootout outside a North
Hollywood gas station convenience store, police said.
Nestor Otero, 24, and Bryan Torres, 19, were arrested shortly
after midnight in connection with the shooting, which occurred
around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday outside an AM/PM store in the 6700 block
of Laurel Canyon Boulevard near Vanowen Street, according to the
Los Angeles Police Department.
Each was booked at the Van Nuys Jail and held in lieu of $1
million, authorities said.
When officers arrived at the scene they found several bullet
casings on the ground, according to Lt. Bryan Lium of the LAPD's
North Hollywood Station.
A short time later, police were told that a man suffering
from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso had arrived at
Valley Presbyterian Hospital, he said.
Sergio Ramirez, 19, of North Hollywood was pronounced dead at
the hospital, Lium said. Detectives determined that Ramirez was
wounded in the shooting at the ARCO station, which involved two
rival gangs, said Officer Bruce Borihanh of the LAPD's Media
Relations Section.
At about 2:30 a.m. today, police towed away from the
hospital's parking lot a car that had apparently been involved in
the violence, an On Scene Video camera crew reported.
A man who said he witnessed the violence told On Scene that a
scuffle had broken out between two groups at the gas station.
During the melee, guns were drawn and shots were fired.
Police urged anyone else with information on the slaying to
call detectives at the LAPD's North Hollywood Station at (818)
623-4045.
