Hawthorne (myFOXla.com) - A stolen car allegedly used by two armed robbery suspects
who led police on a pursuit today in Hawthorne and crashed into
several vehicles and hit a pedestrian was recovered, as was $1,700
in cash, but the suspects remained at large, police said.
The robbery took place around 8 a.m. at an Auto Zone in the
2800 block of Imperial Highway in Inglewood, said Lt. Michael Ishii
of the Hawthorne Police Department.
He said the driver led Hawthorne police on a pursuit
eastbound on the the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway before exiting on
Vermont Avenue, where the vehicle struck several vehicles and a
pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital in serious condition but is
expected to live, Ishii said.
Lt. Mike McBride of the Inglewood Police Department said
$1,700 of the stolen money was recovered from the scene of the
crash.
He added that the getaway vehicle, a black Nissan Altima, was
stolen from Downey, prompting the participation of the Downey
Police Department in the search for the suspects.
The intersection was closed as law enforcement authorities
searched for the suspects.
