South Los Angeles - Police have wounded a driver during a shootout and standoff in
South Los Angeles.
Officer Sara Faden says the man was taken into custody
shortly before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, after police armored vehicles
surrounded the car on Avalon Boulevard. The man was hospitalized
for several gunshot wounds but there's no word on his condition.
Faden says officers tried to stop a possibly stolen vehicle
shortly after 10 a.m. and found that people known to use the gray
compact were listed as armed and dangerous.
Faden says the car didn't stop but fled, halting in South Los
Angeles to let out two men who were later detained.
Faden says the car then drove another 17 blocks and halted,
where the driver shot at officers, who returned fire.
