East LA (myFOXla.com) - A robbery suspect was arrested Tuesday night after barricading himself inside his car in East Los Angeles for several hours, authorities said.

A sheriff's Special Weapons Team was called in to assist Montebello police in dealing with the man wanted for armed robbery about 5:45 p.m. after he locked himself up inside his vehicle at Garfield Avenue and Olympic Boulevard, Deputy Aura Sierra of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau said.

Special Weapons Team officers blew out the back window of the suspect's car, and shoot tear gas into the vehicle, attempting to draw him outside sometime before 10 p.m.

The man then fought off the gas, sticking his head out of the driver's side window while a sheriff's German Shepard bit his arm.

The suspect remained inside the car until a Special Weapons Team officer shot him with a Taser, causing him to scream and fall out of the car. He was then taken into custody.

The man's name and the details of the robbery he was being sought for were not immediately released.
