South Los Angeles (myFOXla.com) - A barricade situation is under way in South Los Angeles at this hour.

Authorities says it involves a murder-kidnapping suspect who led officers from South Gate through Compton and over three freeways before holing up at a home in the area of 55th Street and Hoover Street.

We don't yet know if there's anyone in the home besides the suspect.

The suspect was in a van in which a murder victim was found after the vehicle was abandoned.

During the pursuit, someone came out of the van and was arrested by LA County Sheriff's Deputies.

Authorities say that the kidnapping occurred shortly before 1 this morning in the 10,200 block of Kauffman Avenue.

There's an unusual aspect to this affair.

The SWAT team and other law enforcement personnel surrounding the home where the suspect is barricaded are from the Sheriff's Department.

A lieutenant at the sheriff's Century Station says his department is handling the barricade situation because of the LAPD's focus on security surrounding the Michael Jackson memorial at Staples Center later this morning.
