Each day - TV viewers often call, email or tweet the station to find out what the weather is going to be like on a certain day or date.
I always tell viewers that anything more than about 72 hours out becomes less than reliable - but there are weather websites that often can help people plan future events.
So here is the first in a series of my Top 5 favorite local weather websites that will help most anyone get a better idea what the weather will be like on a certain date or get the immediate information they need for the day.
The top sites for local weather forecasters and Meteorologist here in Southern California. We all use them on a daily basis.
NWS Oxnard offers forecast and historical information for San Luis, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. NWS San Diego covers Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego Counties. Both sites are formatted the same way.
Pay attention to the links at the far left. Local Forecast offers a good view of the local weather in the area over the next 7 days. Climate Data is great for homework and other resources. But the best link is called "Area Discussion". If you open this link there is a lot of Meteorology speak if you will. But read between the lines and you will get a pretty good idea of what to expect weather wise.
Here is an example:
SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE LOS ANGELES/OXNARD CA
827 PM PDT WED MAR 11
.UPDATE...UPPER LEVEL TROUGH HAS CUTOFF FROM THE FLOW ALOFT AND
CONTINUES TO TRACK FURTHER SOUTH THAN WHAT THE CURRENT MODEL
SOLUTIONS INDICATE. FOR PRECIPITATION CHANCES...THE CURRENT
PACKAGE IS STILL IN AGREEMENT WITH THE LATEST MODEL SOLUTION FOR
BEST CHANCES OF PRECIPITATION SOUTH OF POINT CONCEPTION...BUT SOME
CONCERN DOES EXISTS THAT THE LOW MAY TRACK TOO FAR SOUTH REDUCING
THE THREAT OF PRECIPITATION. EARLIER TIME HEIGHT SECTIONS OVER
KLAX AND KLGB INDICATED A POSSIBILITY FOR THE INGREDIENTS COMING
TOGETHER FOR PRECIPITATION LATE TONIGHT...BUT THE MODELS ARE
STARTING TO DOWNPLAY THE SCENARIO SOME.
Below you will find two links. The first link below will take you to the Media FastPage for NWS Oxnard . Here you will find all you need for both Forecast, Historical and Watch/Warning information. The other link will bring you directly to NWS San Diego.
