Wilmington (myFOXla.com) - A fire that burned about 20 acres of heavy brush on Sunday near
Los Angeles Harbor College and a municipal golf course was put out
in just under two hours, a city fire official said.
The brushfire was reported at 4:16 p.m. at 1202 W. Anaheim
St., just east of Vermont Avenue, said Erik Scott of the Los
Angeles Fire Department.
Water-dropping helicopters joined more than 90 firefighters
battling the blaze, Scott said.
"The humidity has been in our favor," Scott said.
The flames burned north and east through heavy brush and
threatened the Harbor Park Municipal Golf Course, just north of
L.A. Harbor College, according to emergency radio transmissions.
The fire was declared 100 percent controlled by 6:05 p.m.
No structures were threatened or damaged, and no injuries
were reported, he said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation and not
immediately known.
