The victim was sitting next to the 24-year-old driver, Michael Keating, who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada said.
Keating and Alyssa Unruh, 22, of Anaheim, who was in the backseat, were taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment ofr minor injuries, Quesada said.
Keating was trying to merge over to the westbound 91 in a 2003 Toyota Celica about 11:15 p.m. when he attempted to pass a big-rig truck on the shoulder, Quesada said.
