Canoga Park - A broken pipe caused water to flow down several blocks of Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park for more than one hour on Tuesday night.
Street flooding with broken pavement was reported at 9:35 p.m. in the 7200 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, near Sherman Way, according to Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Water was still flowing unimpeded 90 minutes later as Department of Water and Power workers tried to locate a source valve and shut off the flow, according to a DWP official.
A 12-inch pipe was broken, and there was no estimate quantifying possible property damage or how many water customers could be without service once a shut-off was accomplished, the DWP official said.
Water was flowing several inches deep for a time near at least one bank building on Topanga Canyon Boulevard just south of Sherman Way, a news video cameraman at the scene reported.
By 11 p.m., the flooding reached south nearly to Vanowen Street, but Vanowen itself was dry, On Scene reported.
