Downey - Police searched today for three men involved in a home-invasion robbery that left a man fighting for his life with a gunshot wound to the head.
Officers found the man when they arrived in the 9300 block of Elm Vista Drive in response to a gunfire report received at 11:54 p.m. Monday, said Downey police Sgt. Perry Miller.
The wounded man was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in grave condition, said Downey police Sgt. Brian Baker. His name was withheld.
Baker said three males "forced entry into the victim's residence seeking valuables," Baker said.
"Once inside, they were confronted by residents, and an altercation ensued," Baker said. "The incident carried into the front yard, where one of the suspects fired a handgun at the victim, striking him in the head."
The men fled in a small, light-colored vehicle, possibly white. Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call Detective Robert Del Rio at (562) 904-2324 or Detective Paul Hernandez at (562) 904-2368.
