Van Nuys - An 85-year-old woman who was driving in Van Nuys today accidentally struck a Los Angeles police officer who was issuing a traffic citation, leaving him with a head injury, police said.
The officer was struck just before 2:30 p.m. in the 14000 block of Sherman Way, near Woodman Avenue, said Officer Karen Rayner of the Los Angeles Police Department.
"The officer was in the roadway giving a ticket," Rayner said. "The woman struck his black and white, then continued traveling alongside and hit the officer."
Rayner said the officer was thrown onto the hood of the woman's vehicle and hit her windshield before falling onto the pavement.
The officer was transported in stable condition to a hospital to be treated for head injuries.
The woman was not immediately arrested.
