Anaheim - A Los Angeles man was arrested Sunday night in connection with
the murder of an 84-year-old Anaheim woman found dead in her house,
police said.
Anthony Wade, 25, was detained in Highland in San Bernardino
County by law enforcement officers responding to a disturbance call
at a supermarket, said Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez
"When he was detained, he was in possession of a vehicle that
was registered to a house in the 2400 block of Paradise Road,"
Martinez said. "Deputies from the San Bernardino Sheriff's
Department called us and told us go to the house and ask the owner
if they knew where their car was."
Officers who went to the house around 7:30 a.m. got no
response at the front door, and when they went around to the back
they found an open door, Martinez said.
"Upon entry, they discovered a dead woman in the living
room," Martinez said.
The condition of the body and house indicated she had been
murdered, he said.
Anaheim detectives retrieved the vehicle for processing and
transported Wade to Anaheim for questioning, he said.
He was arrested around 7 p.m. and booked on suspicion of
murder.
He was being held at the Anaheim Detention Facility. Bail
information was unavailable, but Martinez said police expect it to
be $1 million.
Police would not immediately identify the victim, but did say
she appeared to be the 84-year-old woman who lived alone in the
house.
"She was a humble, lovable human being," neighbor Maria Rudal
told the Orange County Register. "She loved everyone, was friendly
to everybody. We called her `everybody's grandmother' because she
loved all the kids in the neighborhood."
