Stevenson Ranch - A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night in Stevenson Ranch to honor an 18-year-old Marine who was killed in Helmand Province just two weeks after his unit arrived in Afghanistan.
Pfc. Jake W. Suter was a football player at West Ranch High School and an Eagle Scout, radio station KHTS in Santa Clarita reported. History was one of his passions, and he had studied Afghanistan before being deployed there.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered flags over the state Capitol to be flown at half staff in Suter's honor.
Suter had been assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Martime Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
