Los Angeles - At least 15 flights between Japan and Los Angeles International Airport were canceled today in the aftermath of the magnitude-8.9 earthquake.
The flights were:
-- Delta flight 284, inbound from Narita airport in Tokyo, which was to have arrived at LAX at 8:30 a.m.; and the same airline's flight 283, outbound from LAX to Narita at noon;
-- All Nippon Airways flight 006 from Narita, which was to have arrived at LAX at 9:45 a.m.; and the same airline's flight 5, outbound from LAX at 11:35 a.m.;
-- Japan Airlines flight 62 from Narita, which was to have arrived at 9:50 a.m.; and the same airline's flight 61, outbound from LAX at 11:50 a.m.
-- Delta flight 636 from Haneda airport in Tokyo, which was to have arrived at 6:05 p.m.; and the same airline's flight 635, outbound at 12:05 a.m. Saturday;
-- American Airlines flight 170 from Narita, which was to have arrived at 9:20 a.m.; and the same airline's flight 169, outbound at 11:40 a.m.;
-- United Airlines flight 890 from Narita, which was to have arrived at 9:50 a.m.; and the same airline's flight 891, outbound at 11:50 a.m.
-- Korean Airlines flight 1 from Narita, which was to have arrived at 7:45 a.m.;
-- All Nippon Airways flight 1006 from Haneda, which was to have arrived at 4:55 p.m.; and the same airline's flight 1005, outbound at 12:10 p.m.
Authorities were unclear on the status of Singapore flight 12, which was to have arrived at 7 p.m.; and the same airline's flight 11, outbound at 1:15 p.m.
Officials urged people to check with their airlines for updated flight information.
