Hollywood Palladium - An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer who was working security at a Hollywood Palladium concert was stabbed in a hand by a man during an altercation, then shot the suspect in the back, police said today.

Two off-duty officers were leaving the concert featuring the band A Day To Remember and were walking to the parking lot about 10 p.m. Wednesday when the shooting occurred on El Centro Avenue, just north of Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Michael Ventura said.

Both the officer and suspect were taken to a hospital.

Preliminary reports indicated the suspect was armed with a knife and one officer withdrew his weapon and commanded the man to drop the knife, Ventura said. A shooting occurred after the man stabbed the officer.

The suspect was struck once in the back and taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Ventura said.

An administrative investigation was ongoing as well as a criminal investigation, with the officer considered a crime victim, Ventura said. Charges were not determined.
