Paramount - An alleged drunk driver killed a 42-year-old man in a collision
on a Paramount freeway, a California Highway Patrol officer said
today.
A silver 2000 BMW M3 collided with a 1997 Toyota Celica on
the transition road from the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway
to the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway about 8:40 p.m.
Saturday, CHP Officer Anthony Martin said.
The Toyota struck a curb and overturned on an embankment. The
driver, Segundo Napoles of Lynwood, was pronounced dead at the
scene, Martin said.
The BMW veered several hundred feet ahead and struck a
guardrail, he said.
The driver, Juan Garcia Sotello, 29, of Norwalk, was taken to
Saint Francis Medical Center in Lynwood with moderate injuries and
later arrested, he said.
The fatality was the fifth on Los Angeles County freeways and
roads patrolled since the Thanksgiving holiday period started.
