Los Angeles - A man in his 20s who led Los Angeles police on a chase in a minivan with a stolen license plate was in jail today, facing several possible felony charges.

Police would not name the suspect, who was arrested about 11 p.m. Saturday after a standoff with SWAT officers near Figueroa Street and Avenue 47.

Police tried to pull over the minivan, but he fled and soon forced his way into an apartment, said Sgt. Douglas Bowers of the Northeast Station.

Police evacuated some adjacent apartments, while the suspect allegedly refused to let a woman and child leave the apartment he had forced his way into.

Eventually the man surrendered. No was hurt.

The suspect could face felony evading and false imprisonment charges, police said.
