Hollywood Hills - Authorities now know the name of the man whose head, hands and feet were found in Bronson Park near the Hollywood Sign but will not release it immediately, officials said today.
The man's name and other information about him are being withheld at the request of law enforcement, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
The head was found about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 3200 block of Canyon Drive, when two people walking nine dogs saw two of the animals playing with it. Investigators do not believe it had been there long, and they discounted an earlier theory that the case could be connected to the discovery of a human torso in Arizona.
Authorities who again searched the area near the Hollywood Sign Wednesday found two hands and feet, said Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh.
Investigators earlier had said they man was believed to have been in his 40s to 60s, said LAPD Officer Gregory Baek.
The search continued on Thursday, but no other human remains were found. The search was called off late Thursday, and the area was being reopened to the public today, Baek said.
Investigators detained a person for questioning on Thursday after going to an apartment building near the park where the remains were found, KFI reported. Baek said no one has been placed under arrest.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (877) LAPD-24-7.
