Los Angeles - The Afghan girl who had her nose and ears cut off by her abusive husband is in Southern California for treatment.
Bibi Aisha appeared on the August 9th cover of Time Magazine... The 18-year old told the magazine her husband had the Taliban's approval when he cut off her nose and ears to punish her for running away.
The Grossman Burn Foundation paid for her trip to Los Angeles and will fund her reconstructive surgery.
Her story brings to light the plight of Muslim women around the world. Many are abused using outdated Islamic rulings and customs.
Doctors at the Grossman Burn Center say they are discussing what Aisha's treatment will entail before moving forward.
Activists and human rights workers are glad Aisha is getting help, but say thousands of other women are victims of domestic violence in Afghanistan.
Aziza Hassan, Director for the Muslim Public Affairs Council and filmmaker and author Melissa Roddy, joined us live on Friday to talk about the abuse of Afghan women.
