Sherman Oaks - A 30-year-old man attacked by two other men and shot in the head
outside a bar in Sherman Oaks was in critical condition this
afternoon, and police sought the public's help locating a "person
of interest" in connection with the shooting.
The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. outside Smiley's Nightclub
at 13615 Ventura Blvd., said Officer April Harding of the Los
Angeles Police Department.
The victim had been standing outside the club when he was
confronted by two men.
"A fight broke out and one of the men wrestled the victim to
the ground and shot him in the head with a large-caliber handgun,"
Harding said.
The wounded man was rushed to a hospital in critical
condition, Harding said.
Police want to question a person of interest shown in a
surveillance photo wearing a light blue shirt and light blue pants.
The man, who was seen inside Smiley's before the shooting, is
believed to have been involved in an altercation and the shooting,
Harding said.
He was last seen getting into the passenger side of a getaway
car described as a late-model light-colored Honda or Toyota that
was last seen traveling west on Ventura Boulevard.
Shortly after the shooting, an unidentified man suffering
from a gunshot wound was dropped off at Providence Saint Joseph
Medical Center in Burbank, Harding said. Detectives are still
trying to determine whether the two shootings are related.
Anyone with information about the shooting or who the person
of interest was urged to call LAPD Van Nuys Area Homicide
Detectives at (818) 374-1917 or (877)LAPD-24-7.
