Van Nuys - A problem developed on Monday in an 8-inch connector pipe that
taps into a 54-inch main carrying recycled water in Van Nuys,
sending a geyser at least 20 feet into the air for about an hour.
Firefighters were dispatched to the 7200 block of N. Van Nuys
Boulevard about 10:35 a.m., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire
Department.
Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews were sent to
turn off the water in the pipeline, which carries recycled water
used for irrigation and industrial purposes, the utility reported.
Brooks Baker of the LADWP said the rupture was not expected
to interrupt regular water service to any LADWP customers.
