Diamond Bar - A 26-year-old woman was fatally struck by a big rig today on the Pomona (60) Freeway in Diamond Bar, authorities said.

The accident was reported just after midnight on the westbound 60 just west of Brea Canyon Road, said California Highway Patrol Officer Anthony Martin.

The woman pulled her 1993 Toyota Corolla over to the side of the freeway and got out of the car to have a talk with her female passenger, Martin said.

A big rig traveling approximately 55 mph struck the woman as she was walking to get back to the driver's side of the car, Martin said.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The relationship of the women was unknown, Martin said.

Two lanes were blocked while an investigation was under way.

All lanes were reopened at 3:45 a.m.
