Malibu - A woman who was attacked on Friday in Point Dume State Park in Malibu escaped by going off a cliff, but the man stole her car, according to the sheriff's department.

The 35-year-old woman had just finished jogging shortly before noon when a man grabbed her from behind and tried to sexually assault her, according to sheriff's deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills station.

The woman was able to fight off the man, run to the edge of a cliff and jump and slide down to the beach below, deputies said.

The man did not follow her off the cliff, instead fleeing in her white 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser. He is believed to still be in possession of the vehicle, whose license plate number is 6CHF554.

The woman was taken to a hospital and treated for abrasions and bruises suffered from the fall down the cliff.

The suspect is 35 to 40 years old, 5 feet 10 inches and 200 pounds, with a stocky build and no front teeth. He was wearing a black leather jacket and blue jeans but no shoes.

Anyone with information about the attack was asked to contact Detective Tom Lewis of the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff station at (818) 878-1808.
