Chicago Teen Attack Captured on Video

FOX 11 News discussion video.

Published : Thursday, 19 Jan 2012, 9:10 AM PST

A video on YouTube showing a Chicago area 17-year-old being brutally kicked and punched has resulted in the arrest of seven teenagers.

In the video, the teens beat up an Asian teenager while calling him a racial epithet at least 25 times. Police, however, say the crime was not racially motivated.

The attackers stole the victim's shoes, wallet and $180 in cash. He was treated for bruises and abrasions. One teen was charged as an adult and the rest - a 15-year-old girl, two 16-year-old boys and three 15-year-old boys - were cited as juveniles.

All were charged with one count each of robbery and aggravated battery, including the teen who recorded the video.

Police say the posting of violent crimes on YouTube has become a national epidemic.
