Malibu - Skate sailing all started a few years ago in an attic, when Billy Smith found his grandfather's hand-crafted sails.
The sails were designed in the '70s to help skiers navigate their way down the slopes... The sport was born, when Billy, an avid skateboarder, decided to use the sails for downhill skating.
Billy Smith:
"The sail helps you increase your drag, you can use it, one arm, two arms, fully deployed, barrel in the sail, but it's a slowing down, breaking down of wind resistance... You're pretty much catching air."
Now a passionate following of skateboarders are sailing the world. Carlos Amezcua has more on skate sailing in this video report.
