Alt Car Expo in Santa Monica

Santa Monica (myFOXla.com) - The Alt Car Expo at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium has a parking lot and showroom full of cars other vehicles... some of them, unusual looking, but all of them green.

Some of the brands, you've heard of... some, maybe not.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who attended the show on Friday, is hoping to see more green companies come to California... and more eco-friendly vehicles on the roads.

"Big incentives and customers are ready," the governor said. "This is where they can sell."

For example, the Wheego electric car is built in Ontario and the Chevy Volt has parts made in Torrance.

Vision Industries, which showed off a hydrogen-powered truck at the Expo, builds it in El Segundo.

"People actually think that you are giving up power, but we're showing with the truck you actually have more power."

The company says its vehicle has double the torque of its diesel counterpart and none of the noise. The latter of which was apparent at the Expo as the truck ran silently.

The expo also features propane powered cars, electric vehicles that look electric, and a sneak peek at the Mini E, which gets about a hundred miles a charge.
